Anemones are best propagated by dividing their tubers or rhizomes. You can divide anemones in the spring or fall. 

Steps for propagating anemones 

  1. Dig up the anemone plant
  2. Use a sharp tool to divide the root ball into sections
  3. Replant the sections or store them in a cool, dry place
  4. In the spring, replant the stored sections or the new sections you divided
  5. Water well

When to divide anemones

Corm-type anemones: Divide in the fall by breaking off smaller corms that are attached to the original 

Other types of anemones: Divide in the fall by cutting the rhizomes or tuberous roots into sections 

Japanese anemones: Divide in the spring
