Blue spruce can be propagated from cuttings or seeds

From cuttings

Take cuttings: In late summer or early fall, take healthy stem cuttings that are about the length of your palm.

Prepare the cuttings: Remove the needles from the lower two-thirds of the cutting.

Apply rooting hormone: Dip the cut end of the stem in rooting hormone.

Plant the cuttings: Plant the cuttings in a sandy loam mixture.

Maintain moisture: Keep the soil moist, but not too wet.

Wait for roots: Roots can take more than eight weeks to grow.

    From seeds

Gather cones: Collect new cones in early to mid-September.

Dry the cones: Put the cones in a paper bag and let them dry for one to two months.

Shake the bag: When the bag is shaken, the seeds should fall out of the cones.

Prepare the growing medium: Loosen and dampen the potting mix.

Plant the seeds: Plant the seeds in the potting mix.

Wait for germination: Germination usually occurs within two to four weeks.
