Cranberry plants can be propagated by stem cuttings, seeds, or division

Stem cuttings

  1. Take a 5–8 in cutting in spring or early summer
  2. Remove most leaves and flower buds, leaving only the top 3–4 leaves
  3. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone  Insert the cutting into a pot with a well-draining, acidic potting mix
  4. Place the pot in a warm, shaded area with indirect sunlight
  5. Maintain even moisture in the soil
  6. After 6–8 weeks, the cutting should be rooted and can be transplanted

Seeds

  1. Fill a pot with a lime-free, sterilized growing medium
  2. Poke holes in the pot and drop 2–3 seeds into each hole
  3. Cover the seeds with a little growing medium
  4. Place the pot in an area that’s 65–70°F for 4 weeks
  5. Move the pot to a cooler area for 6 weeks
  6. Move the pot to an area that’s 40–55°F
  7. Keep the pot slightly damp
  8. Germination can take several weeks or months

Division

  1. Water the plant the day before you plan to divide it
  2. Dig around the plant to avoid damaging the roots
  3. Use a sharp spade to divide the root ball into sections
  4. Replant the divisions in prepared soil at the same depth as they were originally
