Cranberry plants can be propagated by stem cuttings, seeds, or division.
Stem cuttings
- Take a 5â8 in cutting in spring or early summerÂ
- Remove most leaves and flower buds, leaving only the top 3â4 leavesÂ
- Dip the cut end in rooting hormone Insert the cutting into a pot with a well-draining, acidic potting mixÂ
- Place the pot in a warm, shaded area with indirect sunlightÂ
- Maintain even moisture in the soilÂ
- After 6â8 weeks, the cutting should be rooted and can be transplantedÂ
SeedsÂ
- Fill a pot with a lime-free, sterilized growing medium
- Poke holes in the pot and drop 2â3 seeds into each hole
- Cover the seeds with a little growing medium
- Place the pot in an area that’s 65â70°F for 4 weeks
- Move the pot to a cooler area for 6 weeks
- Move the pot to an area that’s 40â55°F
- Keep the pot slightly damp
- Germination can take several weeks or months
DivisionÂ
- Water the plant the day before you plan to divide it
- Dig around the plant to avoid damaging the roots
- Use a sharp spade to divide the root ball into sections
- Replant the divisions in prepared soil at the same depth as they were originally
