Malva can be propagated by seed or by cuttings

From seed

  1. Collect seeds from the plant after it flowers.
  2. Sow the seeds in a well-draining potting mix.
  3. Cover the seeds with a light layer of soil.
  4. Water gently and keep the soil moist.
  5. Place in a warm, sunny location.
  6. After 1-2 weeks, the seeds should germinate.
  7. Transplant the seedlings into individual pots or into the garden.

From cuttings

  1. Select a healthy, non-flowering stem that’s 4-6 inches long.
  2. Using sharp, clean shears or scissors, cut just below a leaf node.
  3. Remove the lower leaves, leaving 2-3 pairs at the top.
  4. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone powder or gel to encourage root growth.
  5. Plant the cutting in a pot with a well-draining potting mix.
  6. Water thoroughly.
  7. Cover the pot with a plastic bag or humidity dome to create a humid environment.
  8. Place in a bright, indirect location.
  9. After 4-6 weeks, roots should form.
  10. Transplant the cuttings into individual pots and harden them off before planting outdoors.
