Marsh marigold can be propagated by dividing the root clump or sowing seeds.
Root division
- Prepare: Wear gloves to protect your skin from toxins in the plant.
- Dig up: In early spring, before the plant blooms, dig up the root clump with a sharp, clean tool.
- Separate: Gently shake off excess soil and separate the root clump into smaller sections. Each new plant should have roots and shoots.
- Trim: Remove any dead or damaged material.
- Replant: Place the new plants in a sunny or partially shady spot in wet soil. Water well and keep the soil moist until the plants are established.
Seed propagation
- Sow: Sow the seeds as soon as they ripen, before they dry out.
- Wait: It can take a few years for the plants to reach maturity and bloom.
