Pachysandra can be propagated by division or by taking cuttings

Division

  1. Water the pachysandra well in the spring
  2. Dig up a clump of pachysandra with a sharp shovel or spade
  3. Cut the clump into sections with a sharp knife or spade
  4. Make sure each section has roots and shoots
  5. Replant the sections about 12 inches apart
  6. Water well and keep the soil moist for the first two months

Cuttings

  1. Select a healthy stem with leafy growth
  2. Cut a 3–6 inch piece below the leaves with sharp shears
  3. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone
  4. Insert the cutting into a pot with a moist potting mix
  5. Place the pot in a bright but sheltered location
  6. Keep the soil moist until roots form
  7. Transplant the cutting to a shaded garden bed or landscape spot

Pachysandra is a ground cover that spreads by rhizomes, which are underground stems that produce roots and shoots. It can be used in shaded areas, on slopes, and around the bases of trees.
