Spiderwort, also known as Tradescantia, can be propagated by stem cuttings, layering, or seeds

Stem cuttings

Select a healthy stem: Choose a stem that is firm and has a vibrant color.

Make a clean cut: Use clean shears to cut the stem below a leaf node.

Remove lower leaves: Strip the lower leaves to prevent rot.

Root the cutting: Dip the cut end in rooting hormone to encourage root growth.

Plant the cutting: Place the cutting in a pot with moist, well-draining soil. Insert the stem no more than an inch deep.

Water: Water the cutting regularly to help it settle in.

Repot: Once roots are at least 5 cm long, repot the cutting into a permanent container.

    Layering

    1. Drape a long stem over a pot of compost.
    2. Secure the stem with a pin or stone.
    3. Wait for roots to form at the points where the stem touches the soil.
    4. Cut the stem from the parent plant.

    Seeds

    1. Sow seeds outdoors in early spring or fall.
    2. Lightly cover the seeds.
    3. If starting seeds indoors, do so about eight weeks before transplanting outside.

Spiderwort is a fast-growing plant that can tolerate many soil conditions. It does best in partial shade, but can also grow in sunny areas if the soil is kept moist.
