Verbena can be propagated from cuttings or seeds. Cuttings are easier than growing from seed and produce plants with the same flower color as the parent plant.
From cuttings
Select a healthy plant: Choose a plant with lots of new growth.
Take cuttings: Use clean, sharp tools to cut 4–6 inch stems from the plant. Cut just above a leaf node.
Prepare the cuttings: Remove all but the top one or two sets of leaves. Dip the bottom inch of the stem into rooting hormone powder.
Plant the cuttings: Place the cuttings in a small pot with well-draining potting mix. You can add some grit or perlite to improve drainage.
Water and cover: Water the cuttings and cover the pot with a clear plastic bag.
Place in a warm spot: Put the pot in a warm, sheltered location with indirect sunlight.
Monitor and wait: After about six weeks, the cuttings should have roots and be ready to transplant.
From seeds
Verbena can be grown from seeds in the spring.
Verbena seeds are found in dry, cylindrical seed pods.
