Yarrow can be propagated by seed, division, or cuttings.
From seed
- Collect seeds from mature plants in late summer or early fall
- Sow seeds in a moist, well-draining soil mix
- Place in a warm location with bright light
- After 10–14 days, seedlings should germinate
- Transplant seedlings to their permanent location once they are large enough
By division
- In early spring or fall, when the plant is dormant, dig up the yarrow clump
- Use a sharp spade to separate the clump into sections
- Make sure each section has both roots and shoots
- Replant the divisions in well-prepared soil
From cuttings
- Take cuttings from healthy stems
- Dip the cut end in rooting hormone
- Plant the cutting in a well-draining soil
- Keep the soil moist but not soggy
- Place the cutting in a location with indirect sunlight
Yarrow is a cold-tolerant perennial flower that needs less water than other flowers.
